Adventures in Pencil Integration

I love idea of a multimedia educational world. The digital age is rapidly growing, but i do understand the need for pencils. A pencils is an essential tool to writing fundamentals. Although I do believe computers are one of the greastest educational inventions. Things like spell/grammer could easily handicap a child learning to write. The easy accsess to correction deminishes the fundamentals of writing. I do think its still hip to carry a pencil

Why are Your Kids Playing Games

I think it's a great idea to intergrate games into teaching. Kids respond better to things they enjoy. Most Kids learn more when the teaching session is more engaging. I coach a 4 year old Tee ball Team and it can get very hectic when trying to keep their attention. For example, we play base runnning games that develop base running skills, builds endurance and team cohesion. Games sometimes make teaching seem effortless. I've tried to be a by the book teacher when it came to sports, but during that time my loses outwieghed my wins.

  1. Hello Percy!

I have enjoyed learning your perspective about integrating computers and playing games in the classroom. I agree there are certain times throughout the day where we still need paper and pencils. For example, I still believe children need to learn how to write.

Also, I love your example of how you have integrated games into teaching children to play baseball. I think children enjoy learning and learn quicker when they are having fun. It also helps them remember skills when they can relate a topic to a game.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts just make sure you double-check your spelling and grammar errors before posting. Keep up the good work!

  2. The first part of the assignment was to explain the cartoon. Papermate is a metaphor for a PV. Ticonderoga is a metaphor for a Mac. The cartoon characters resemble the stars of the long series (66 over 4 years) of Apple ads starring John Hodgman as PC and Justin Long as Mac.

    2. The second part of the assignment was to read the post Why Were Your Kids Playing Games? , read at least one other post, create a link to in on your post, write a quality post about the two posts you read.

    3. The third part of the assignment was to read the post and some comments by previous students and then to discuss your position on the arguments made by Dr. McLeod.

In addition you were to send Tweets to Mr. Spencer and Dr. McLeod.

You missed the metaphor in the cartoon.

You missed the message Mr. Spencer was sending via the cartoon.

You missed the metaphor of Mr. Spencer's post (pencils=computers).

You did not do PArt 2 of the assignment

I have not yet checked to see whether you sent the Tweets.
